If a small bus or truck is not what you’re aiming for and you’re looking further to heavier vehicles with higher Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), then the Heavy Rigid or HR Truck Licence course is the way to go. An HR Truck Licence is specific about what you can drive much like a Medium Rigid (MR) and Light Rigid (LR) but it provides you with more versatility as to what you can drive; beyond that you would be aiming for a Multi-Combination (MC) Truck Licence. The HR licence enables you to druve trucks and busses with a GVM of more than eight tonnes and with three or more axles and bendy (articulated) vehicles. Additionally, you can drive a vehicle with a towed trailer of not more than nine tonnes GVM. There is fifteen items of criteria for the HR Truck licence and you gain one-on-one training which is comprehensive on theoretical and practical components. Worried about defensive driving techniques? We have you covered and will teach you the optimum way for defensive driving over aggressive driver behaviour. You will complete the final competency test with us as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in New South Wales. We comply with the Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) regulations and requirements and you can be confident in our accredited courses. As with the other licences such as MR and LR, there are some requirements for attaining the HR Truck Licence such as holding a full C Class driver’s licence or a P-Plater P2 licence for twelve months or more. Additionally, the standard requirements of a Licence Application Form, acceptable proof of identity and the required fee need to be met along with passing an eyesight test, passing the HR knowledge test and providing a medical report if applicable. You will then be issued with a Heavy Vehicle HVCBA Learner’s Log Book and a copy of the Guide to Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment and away you go to practice your LR vehicle driving with your instructor.
Once You Have Your HR Truck Licence…
Core Driving School will help clients from Sydney to Newcastle, the Central Coast, Campbelltown, Wollongong and Penrith and all in between to gain their HR Truck Licence in a one-day course run by our accredited school. Then once you have passed your competency assessment and gain your licence, you are ready to roll onto bigger and better things… definitely bigger! Heavy vehicles which require an HR Truck Licence are massive and with your new skill set and knowledge, you will be ready to master them. However, keep in mind, when you are fresh with your licence it is best to practice very carefully and with strong attention to detail and the road. Staying a fair distance away from other vehicles is optimum and rest and eat well so you have the energy to manoeuvre the vehicle competently and safely. Securing your load is highly-important and a rookie error when you are a beginner; learning how best to maximise your space with efficient loading and packing and securing it firmly in place is crucial. The more experience you gain driving heavy vehicles, the better you will become at this. When you are pulling out, if you choose to pass someone, be extremely careful checking your blind spot and mirrors but it is best practice to remain in the left-hand lane. Cars will be flying along main highways and roads for trucks and if you’re pulling out of the depot or a location onto the road, take into account the fact that you will start off very slowly so it is best to wait until there are no cars coming.
Flying Colours
‘Paul and Jackson travelled from Newcastle to attend the HR Truck Licence course with us and passed with flying colours’ – no better statement than this to attest to our exceptional quality training and the aptitude of both Paul and Jackson in picking up the knowledge and skills required. Not only did they pass the competency assessment to gain their HR Truck Licence but Jackson Namana recently did too and reviewed Core Driving School with ‘I went in for my HR licence. From the beginning, everyone I dealt with at Core driving school were excellent. Vic, Chris and Isaac were especially helpful. I did my training with Isaac. Every doubt and worry I had, he addressed and then trained out of me. I would 100% recommend anyone, looking for a licence an upgrade or even a refresher, head down and speak to these guys. I usually struggle a lot doing tests, but they really put me at ease with their easy going nature. And they allow so much time for you to learn and their teaching methods are so good. That once it was test time, I felt right at home in what was easily the biggest truck I’ve been in. I really want to thank you for all your help guys and if I ever upgrade, I’ll be coming back to you’. Another testament to our experience and dedication comes from Pauline Carr who wrote ‘This company’s instructors are highly experienced and professional. They were extremely knowledgeable, supportive and encouraging. Their objective is to see you succeed and do it safely. Many thanks to Frankie, Branko and Tyrone for your combined effort and patience’. More happy HR Truck Licence achievers includes Trevor S who said ‘These guys are the real deal. A training company with integrity! They were very professional and very supportive in training me to get my HR licence. Big thanks to Isaak and Elda, I appreciate your commitment to my success’.
